Bruce Wetmore is 6’2, starting our program on 9/1/2018 at the age of 55 with a weight of 288 lbs. As of 10/26/2019 he is 56 years old with a weight of 220!
Did you have any physical limitations before you started making lifestyle related changes? Do you have those issues now?
Both knees, right arm, and lower back all hurt. None of those issue affect me now, especially my knees. That was the biggest change I noticed when walking up stairs.
What specific lifestyle adjustments did you make and why?
Since September of 2018, I’ve been eating high nutrient dense foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and lean meats while adding in exercise over the last few months. Small amounts of treats (carbs) were strategically added to keep my sanity.
What trip did you want to prepare for and how long is your trip?
Rifle elk hunting trip in Eastern Oregon. This is a week-long trip that has been a tradition for 40+ years with family.
Who do you go on this trip with?
My son, my brothers, nephews, and close friends.
What is the terrain and weather like where you hunt?
This early November trip typically is in the heart of winter with snow and cold temperatures in Eastern Oregon at 4,000-6,000 feet.
What prompted you to make the decision to prepare for your elk hunting trip?
I had a challenging time at one point during my last hunting trip where I had trouble putting on my hunting boots and tying my laces because of my weight. At that moment, I decided that something needed to change when I got back.
What were your biggest challenges you encountered when making lifestyle related improvements?
There were specific cravings I had for the first few months but more specifically the biggest challenges I faced was staying away from late night snacking and second helpings at dinner.
What are 3 tips you would tell someone about making the decision to make lifestyle related changes?
It’s going to take some time to see results. Be patient. Find better nutritional alternatives for cravings. Allow for a treat meal once a week or every other week. Just knowing that and eating clean whole foods I lost the weight without exercising in the beginning.
